Happy New Year!
We are getting back into the swing of things. Our expectations for the children have increased and Ms. Ann and I are stressing the importance of always doing their best work. We are also working on being more independent and solving problems. You can help your children by giving them responsibilities at home. Sometimes it is easier to do things for them, but in the end, it is better if they are learning to do things for themselves.
We will continue to work on our reading skills by introducing the final letter teams. Using these skills we will be able to decode so many words!! Please be sure to let your child read to you when guided reading books come home. We are beginning to write some great sentences! We continue to use phoenetic spelling along with sounds made by letter teams.
We love working with our Math partners and using our Math Talk!! We are introducing addition and subtraction and strategies to use when solving math problems. The kids are all trying to be members of the "100 Club". Help your child get his or her name on the wall by practicing counting to 100 at home.
Our themes in Religion include Epiphany, Saint Pope John XXIII, God Gathers Us, and Jesus Calls His Disciples.
Science units are Winter, Penguins, Antarctica, Bears and other Hibernating Animals
We will end the month of January celebrating the 100th Day of Kindergarten!! Information about this fun day will be sent out later.
