Spelling Skill:  All of our words have the short “u” sound like in “umbrella”.  All of the words also have an ending blend.  A blend is two consonants that are right next to each other that are blended together when reading.  For example: mp, st, nt.  Assessment on Friday, October 9th.

High Frequency Words: many, home, them, into

Reading:  The class will be reading Animal Park this week.  Test on Animal Park is Friday, October 9th.

Grammar Skill:  We have talked about declarative (statement) and interrogative (question) sentences.  This week we will add exclamatory sentences to our lesson.  An exclamatory sentence shows strong feeling and ends with an exclamation point. (!)

Math: We are reviewing how to solve addition problems.  We will be adding addition problems with 3 addends this week.  There will be a test next week.

Core Knowledge (science/social studies):  We will talk about Christopher Columbus.  Then we will learn how the Conquistadors came to Central America.  We will also read tongue twisters and and the legend of Why the Owl has Big Eyes.

Religion:  We will talk about St. Francis of Assisi as well as stream class mass on Wednesday.  We will also learn that the Church has seasons.  We will learn about the season of The Church: Ordinary Time, Advent, Christmas, Lent, The Three Days (Triduum) and Easter.
